VICEROY BUTTERFLY

Viceroy and Monarch butterflies look very similar, however the Viceroy's wings are smaller than the Monarch's wings.  The most significant difference between the Viceroy and Monarch are the hind-wings of the Viceroy have a horizontal black stripe going across each of the wings, whereas the Monarch butterfly doesn't have this pattern.

The distinct orange, black, and white wings of the Monarch butterfly are readily recognized by many people. The beautiful colored wings also taste bad and are poisonous to many predators and the color is a warning signal to not eat them.
